Hey there! I’m Kimba, a creative-minded mom always on the lookout for my next adventure. I live with my soldier husband, infant son, and two dogs. When I’m not blogging, you can find me exploring museums, sampling street food, and shopping local crafts.
I am the owner and creator of Den & Sky, a lifestyle blog focusing on travel, family, and home. My goal is to inspire families to live adventurously, whether that means traveling to a new country, starting a DIY project, or trying a new activity with the kids.
My goal is to show parents that adventure is out there even after you have children, and that you shouldn’t listen to anyone who says you can’t do so-and-so. This is the place to be if you want to express your creativity, try new things, or dare to challenge the naysayers – and don’t mind doing it all with the kids in tow.
I typically post one or two times a week. To catch my latest posts, subscribe using the form at the top of the page or on the right sidebar.
I also accept requests for PR and media partnerships. My media kit is available upon request.

About Me – The Long Version
For 25 years I called New York my home, and in many ways it still is. I’d always imagined living in New York City forever and couldn’t picture myself anywhere else. That all changed when I fell in love with and, a few years later, married a military man who also happened to be my soulmate. Our relationship has taken us through bouts of long-distance communication, places I would have otherwise never traveled to, difficult deployments and periods of separation. I wouldn’t trade it all for the world.
After completing my Master’s degree in Education, I moved down South to where my husband was stationed. I had a big case of culture shock going from the big city to a small town in North Carolina. Because my family and close friends were far away in New York, I began feeling isolated.
At this time, we were also expecting our first child. Being a notorious over-planner, I began looking online for resources to inform me about pregnancy, birthing, and newborn care. I found so many great blogs dedicated to parenting and family life. Reading these blogs gave me not only the information I was looking for, but also a sense of belonging and companionship. They made me feel like I was not going through this alone.
I soon came to the realization that I wanted to become a part of this vibrant, virtual community of women who wrote about their experiences, adding my own voice and perspectives and building connections with others through the use of technology.
Why Den & Sky?
As I envisioned the themes I wanted for my blog, I found that my writing interests diverged into two main categories, which I have designated in my blog’s name as “den” and “sky.”
Den – I am a huge dog lover with two fur babies of my own. Dogs are den creatures by instinct. To a dog, a den is a small, cozy place of his own where he can feel safe and protected. To me, this image correlates to my idea of a home.
My den instinct drives me to create a beautiful and cozy home environment for my family. As a military spouse, however, our home base changes every few years. A part of me fears our home will forever look like we are in the process of moving in or moving out. Nonetheless I continually try to tap into that den instinct so that wherever we end up, we always feel like we are home.
Sky – What’s the upside to moving around every few years? Opportunities to travel and take to the skies!
I have an ever-growing bucket list of places around the world I want to visit. I am a proud culture nerd – museums are one of the first things I research when planning a new trip. If you would define a foodie as someone who eats for fun rather than necessity, then consider me a foodie as well. I try to incorporate a healthy mix of tourist traps and local secrets into my travel plans.
